Show morePublic fountain in the neighbourhood Abbassia. This building is reproduced with different titles in other postcards of Cairo, either as "fountain" or "sebil", or "school" in Abbassia. The fountain, known as the Sabif of Mustafa Pasha al-Khazindar, was built in 1889 CE by the treasurer under Abbas I of Egypt. Written on the back of the card: "Tel El Kebir, Egypt, Feb. 1916. A typical Egyptian scene. These native cafes are all over the place. They sit outside and drink smoke (often "hookahs") and play dominos and one or two similar games. Note the name of the street - in Arabic and English. ("Sharia" means "street").
